Our daughter Deedra graduated from Tennessee School for the Blind in 1995 with a special education diploma and lives at home with us. My hobbies include playing basketball, working out, fishing, reading, and woodworking.

I graduated from Johnson University in Knoxville, TN in 1996 with a degree in Youth Ministry and Preaching. I am married to my amazing wife, Michelle. • Kenna Osborne

    children's minister

I have been blessed to be called your Children’s Minister since February 1998. I have loved every minute of what I do, as I know that I have the best job in the world…working with some of God’s amazing kids, their parents and our fantastic volunteer team! I have been married to my best friend and ministry partner, Matt, since November 1988, and in 1993, we were doubly blessed with the birth of our twin sons, Corey and Cole. Matt and I are both from the Danville area, so to be able to do ministry to the community where we were raised and where we raised our boys is truly a blessing. When not at the church, you can find me baking, scrapbooking, watching movies or doing Zumba!

He loves to preach and teach thanks to the wonderful family we have here at Second.

  • Sandy Duncan

    Financial Controller

My role as Financial Controller is to manage and lead the accounting and finance activities of Second Church of Christ in a way that supports the vision, mission, and purpose of the Church.

I come from a large, close family thanks to my parents. I try to pass that closeness to my children, and my children’s children. I was a single parent for nine years. I know the only way I survived that time was God’s grace in never letting me go. He has blessed me with a wonderful husband, Terry, that I so don’t deserve, but he loves me anyway. I am incredibly thankful.

  • Barb Calvin

I have been the Receptionist since October of 2000. I love working here because no two days are alike, and you just never know what’s going to happen on any given day. It’s such a blessing to interact with the people I work with and the people that come to church here. I love our seniors. They are such a huge blessing. I love hearing things they have to share, and they hold a special place in my heart.

I have 3 grown children. My daughters, Amanda and Kathryn, both live in Danville. My son, Michael, lives in Baltimore, MD. I have one 8 yr. old grandson, Elliott, my little spot of sunshine. During the summer months Elliott and I, (sometimes his mom), spend our weekends camping. I also enjoy beading and making and selling jewelry. The thing I love the most about Second is that we are a "come as you are" church, and I love the generosity of our congregation.

  • Sandra Lathrop

    Administrative Coordinator

I am the Administrative Coordinator here at Second. I support the Ministry Staff and take care of the Church's database. I love being a part of Second Church of Christ. Working here has given me the opportunity to meet so many people, I feel blessed each time I walk in the door. Being able to worship here and work here is such a blessing.

I am married to a wonderful man, Travis Lathrop, whom I met here at Second. We have four great kids together. I enjoy being a mother and wife. God has truly blessed me with a wonderful family.

I also have to make sure the vans are maintained, and have them ready for church groups to use. I get bids and oversee a variety of projects at the church. I work on basically anything and everything I'm asked. I love the environment and the staff!

I have been married to my wife, Leslie, for 27 years. We have 4 children, all adopted: Robby, Melissa, Michael, and Megan. We also have 3 beautiful granddaughters. I love the outdoors. I grew up understanding who God was and what He could do with my life. I was blessed to have two parents who loved God and tried to live out what it meant to be a follower of Jesus Christ. My wife Kim and I have a son Dustin married to Heather, they have two children Chase, and Belle. • Dean Crandall

I’m the husband to my Monmouth, Illinois high school sweetheart Gina, father to Morgan, Sarah and John and master to Daisy, our third golden retriever. I graduated from WIU in 1984 with an Ag Finance degree and have been a financial advisor for 30 years with a vision of helping Christians plan and manage their finances in order to free up financial resources for Kingdom purposes.

I play basketball, love music, I’m a voracious reader, a gardener, a political junkie, enjoy anything with an internal combustion engine and dabble in farming. I placed my trust in Christ and was baptized at the age of 9, and continue to grow in my faith as God continues cultivating in me a deeper understanding of His grace, mercy and truth.

As an elder my, I have three passions: First, developing leaders in order to diligently lead and steward this precious bride of Christ that is Second Church. Second passion is disciple-making. Nothing thrills me more that witnessing Christians grow in their faith. And finally, Biblical Worldview… Equipping Christians with confidence and competence to speak truth persuasively and winsomely and to engage culture with biblical truth.

  • Erik Cisney

Two loving parents and 3 siblings - my twin sister Amie, and my younger brother and sister - raised me in a Christian home. When I completed high school, I spent 4 years in the United States Navy aboard the USS Memphis (SSN 691) as a SONAR technician. After the Navy, I attended Eastern Illinois University where I received a Bachelors Degree in Social Studies as well as a Teaching Certificate. I have been teaching at Bismarck-Henning High School ever since.

God woke me up my first year of teaching by changing the goal that I had set for myself. I wanted to coach basketball with the University of Michigan being my dream destination. God used a student to wake me up to the fact that He had much bigger plans for me.

My wife Jeannie and I, along with our 3 children, started attending Second in 2008 and I became an Elder in 2013. I have loved every minute that I have been involved at Second Church. It always amazes me to see what God is doing through His church and the impact that is happening in people’s lives and our community. My prayer for Second is that we will continue to make Christ-centered disciples and to reach those who are lost for His Kingdom.

I grew up in a Christian home that stressed a personal relationship with Christ formed through Bible reading and prayer. In my youth, I viewed this as just one of the many different aspects of my life. Now I see my relationship with Christ as the overarching aspect of my life.

I served in the U.S. Army from 1987 to 1991. Afterwards I enrolled at Eastern Illinois University to study Physics. During the course of my studies, I met and married Tracy. She has blessed and enriched my life ever since. We have attended Second Church of Christ since 1998. Our daughter Katie has been blessed to grow up in this church. We treasure the friendships developed here through worship and small groups.

Learning and teaching have always been important to me. I enjoy the time we have in Sunday School classes, during Common Bond and other small groups. I am especially excited when it comes to the topics of discipleship and apologetics.

  • Tim thornsbrough

I was fortunate to have been raised in a Christian home. I attended church all through my youth. I was challenged to be a Christ-centered Disciple in high school and college age youth groups. Our minister and his wife, Ernie and Betty Williams, knew the impact that could be made on young adults. I hope my legacy will be marked with making an impact for Christ as well as helping equip all followers to be Christ-centered Disciples.

I married my wife Denise in 1979. We have farmed in the Alvin area since 1988. I graduated with a B.A. in Leadership and Organizational Management from Lincoln Christian University in 2004. My wife has been my biggest supporter of my leadership ministry. God has blessed my life by sending her to me. We have one daughter Jennifer and one son Josh. We currently have four granddaughters and two grandsons. We enjoy spending time with them as well as staying active in the Church and with our friends.

We love worshiping at Second and have grown during our four years here. My prayer for Second Church is that we continue to grow Christ-centered Disciples and to reach out to our community with the message of God’s saving grace.
